Principal
Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the West Bloomfield and Oshkosh track events.
Our softball team lost two games in a double-header against West Bloomfield on Thursday. Everyone seemed to have a good time and gained some valuable experience. Our last scheduled game is next Thursday v. Manawa in Manawa. Good luck.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the Timber Rattlers game tomorrow (Sat. May, 22). Tailgate starts at 3:30 with the game at 6:30. I also look forward to seeing everyone at the PTL’s carnival this Sunday at Riverside beginning at noon. It should be a lot of fun with games and activities for everyone. Awards night is scheduled for Tuesday, June 1 at 6:30pm. Everyone who participated in sports, bells, recorders will be recognized. Superior honors students will receive prizes. The American Legion will also present a citizenship award as well.
Graduation is scheduled during the 7pm worship service on Thursday evening (June 3).
Our final day will be spent at Mount Olympus in Wisconsin Dells. You should have received an information sheet/permission slip to fill out. We will leave school by bus around 8:30. We will return by 5pm. Please let us know if you are planning to drive, meet us there, stay longer with your family, or drive on from the Dells with your children.
Yearbook order forms have been passed out at school. Please fill them out so we know how many books to get printed. The first copy is $10 with additional copies at $7 each.
Have a great week
1st and 2nd
This week we learned about the Tabernacle Church built by the Israelites, and the Temple built by King Solomon.
It took the people 7 years to build the Temple. When they finished building the Temple, they had a Worship celebration that lasted 7 days! Then the Bible said, then the people stayed to Worship and celebrate another week! Can you imagine worshiping for 2 weeks? We find it hard to sit in Church once a week for one hour! Psalm 122:1 was one of our memory verses: I rejoice when they said to me, let us go to the house of the Lord!
In our math lessons, 1st grade is learning to subtract two digit numbers, tell time to the half hour, learn about polygons, counting quarters and reading different types of graphs. 2nd grade is learning to subtract three digit numbers, make change from $1.00, tell time using quarter past and quarter to, parallel and perpendicular line segments, and probability! All students are participating in our annual addition/multiplication car race. We are writing stories and using exclamation marks and question marks.
3rd and 4th
A special thank you to Mrs. Natasha Krueger, Mrs. Kilgas, and Mr. Wendt for driving us to the fish hatchery. Wisconsin has 13 fish hatcheries and we are very fortunate to be able to have one close to Berlin. Next Thursday, May 27, is our canoe field trip. The 5th and 6th graders will be going with us. This is an all day trip, so your child will need to pack a cold lunch. We will be in a canoe all day, so I recommend your child pack sun screen. Our sport’s basket is full. Thank you to everyone who donated items and money. The basket will be on display at the carnival. Each classroom has a themed basket. The proceeds from the basket/carnival will go to the P.T.L. organization. Spelling unit #31 for next week.
5th and 6th
On Monday we will have our egg drop contest. Students have started creating their containers that will hold their egg when dropped from various heights. We will have a review test on Wednesday for Social Studies. We will have a Health test on Tuesday. Students have also been working on creating new games for gym class. We will try out these games next week and grade each other. On Thursday we will return to the Mecan Environmental Center for a canoe trip. Don’t forget to bring a change of clothes and a sack lunch. We’ll see you at Timber Rattlers and the Carnival. We have been busy this week. We finished getting our carnival basket put together, and boy, does it look good! It is a large wicker basket of chocolate and candy goodness with a few games and gift cards thrown in for good measure.
In math the 5th grade has been doing ratios and adding/subtracting decimal numbers. The 6th grade has been working with percentages and learning how to use ratio boxes.
Both groups have been very busy trying to wrap up our language books. 6th grade is covering adjective and adverb phrases. 5th grade is working on capitalization and punctuation.
We are reading hard to finish our last two books in the Chronicles of Narnia series in reading class. We are now learning about the creation of Narnia in The Magician’s Nephew.
The class has also been spending time working together on their “Egg Drop” project for Mrs. Snow.
7th and 8th
We are quickly winding down the days. We have wrapped up our language unit dealing with nouns and have begun working with pronouns. We are still reading Freak the Mighty and are anxiously awaiting to find out what happens next. We have finished our chapter in history dealing with President Jackson and his reforms. Our new chapter is dealing with the regions of the United States in the early to mid-1800s. We just finished talking about the North and the Mid-West. Our science discussions have revolved how we use astronomy in our lives. In health we have finished talking about the negative effects of drugs and alcohol, and have moved onto how we need to be putting good information into our brains so that they can function correctly. Also, thank you to everyone who either brought in money or items for our grilling basket for the carnival this Sunday. We look forward to seeing all of you there! Blessings on your weekend!
